Artist Statement
My current work explores beliefs of the origin of the human body, as well as the ideas I have had while thinking about the theories of creationism and evolution. Being raised in a Catholic family and community, I struggled to accept the idea that “God had created man in His image.” This was the explanation I was given as to how humans came into existence and I refused to believe it. What drove me to explore this issue was the fact that many Catholics in my own community, and around the world, simply do not believe that the human form is the result of millions of years of evolution. These works represent evolution, creation, uncertainty, connection, language, truth, soul, and survival.
